Yurie Umekawa, born in Japan, started learning the piano at the age of three.
After graduating from Kyoto City University of Arts, where she majored in Piano, she graduated from the Tokyo University of Arts at her master's course at the Graduate School of Music, where she majored in music education. She has won numerous awards including first prize winner in the Piano Competition of EPTA in Belgium(2006), and first prize winner in the All Tohoku Piano Competition, winning the Education Minister’s Award (2010) among others. She has performed concerti with the Krakow Orchestra of Poland and Sendai Philharmonic String Quartet.She performed as a guest including concerts by EPTA at Luxembourg and Belgium(2007), Katsuhiko Watanabe’s Music Restaurant On LiveⅤ(2011), All Tohoku Piano Competition that her performance was also televised(2018). She continues to give concerts as a soloist. She has studied piano with Michiko Shoji, Ruriko Shibuya, Chiaki Sawada, Irina Mejoueva, Hibiki Tamura, Yu Kakuno, and fortepiano with Kikuko Ogura. She is currently an assistant at the Graduate School of Music Education, Tokyo University of Arts, and part-time teacher of Private university.
